A Network of Community Kitchens
Cowichan Community Kitchens brought together small groups across the valley who pooled resources for bulk purchasing and large-quantity food preparation. Each kitchen worked at its own pace, with its own participants and focus, while sharing the same goal of easing financial, nutritional, and social pressures through cooking together.
The Honeymooners
Based in Honeymoon Bay, this kitchen was one of the groups that took part in the community kitchen model over the years.
Growing Together
A kitchen group that shared bulk cooking and food preparation as part of the wider Cowichan Community Kitchens network.
Warmland House
A kitchen associated with Warmland House, contributing to the range of community groups participating in shared food preparation.
Baking Buddies
A kitchen focused on baking together, part of the varied group of community kitchens supported by the organization.
Kitchen numbers and groups shifted over time. One newsletter noted a plan to start several new kitchens; two — The Honeymooners and Growing Together — were later lost, while a second kitchen was added at Warmland.
Cooking Together
Participation in a community kitchen made bulk purchasing and large-quantity cooking cost-effective and time-efficient. Groups met to prepare food together, sharing both the workload and the results — a model that also offered social connection alongside practical relief.
